Rupert Gürtler (born May 12, 1956 in Bad Aussee , Styria ) is a former Austrian ski jumper .

Career

Gürtler surprisingly won the traditional Christmas jumping in St. Moritz in 1975 and then made his debut at the Four Hills Tournament 1975/76 in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen . In the course of his career he was never able to achieve the breakthrough there. His best result was an 11th place in Bischofshofen on January 6th, 1977. In 1980 he jumped in Innsbruck for the first time in the ski jumping World Cup on January 4th and won his first and only World Cup point on March 2nd in Engelberg with 15th place. As a result, together with Sveinung Kirkelund , Thomas Prosser , Jan Jelenský , Nirihiro Konno and Motoshi Iwasaki, he finished 99th in the overall World Cup ranking. At the end of the season he ended his active ski jumping career.

He stayed with the ÖSV as a coach and looked after the Austrian jumpers as head coach in the 1988/89 season. After a rather unsuccessful year, he was replaced in this post by his companion in the active career, Toni Innauer . He is currently responsible for trainer training in the ÖSV and teaches at the Stams ski school .
