For the 1981/1982 season he was able to improve his performance and jumped on the podium for the first time on December 30, 1981 in Oberstdorf . The 3rd place that he achieved was also his highest single placement in his career. In the remaining three jumps of the tour, however, he was unsuccessful. After the tour he was able to reach fourth place in Sapporo before ending his active World Cup career with 14th place on the same hill. In the overall World Cup ranking, he finished 29th.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 , Prosser jumped to 20th place on the normal hill. After the world championship he ended his ski jumping career.
