Ruslana Oleksijivna Taran ( Ukrainian Руслана Олексіївна Таран ; born October 27, 1970 in Evpatoria ) is a former Ukrainian sailor .

successes

Ruslana Taran took part in the Olympic Games three times . At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney , she went each in the 470 dinghy with Olena Pacholtschyk at the start. With 38 points, they won the bronze medal behind the Spanish and Japanese boats in 1996, as well as four years later when they finished the Olympic regatta with 48 points behind the Australian and the US boat also in third place. The 2004 Games in Athens denied Taran in the boat class Yngling . Together with her crew members Hanna Kalinina and Switlana Matewuschewa , she won the silver medal when she finished second thanks to 50 points behind the British and ahead of the Danish boat. In the same year she won bronze in Yngling at the European Championships. In the 470 dinghy she had been significantly more successful with Pacholtschik at world and European championships: in 1995 they were first runner- up in Toronto , before winning the title three times in a row in Tel Aviv in 1997 , in Mallorca in 1998 and in Melbourne in 1999 . Between 1993 and 1999 they were also European champions six times.

In 1997 the World Sailing Association named Taran and Pacholtschyk as World Sailors of the Year . For her success she was awarded the Second Class Order of Merit in 1999 and the Second Class Order of Princess Olga in 2004 .
