Russ Dantzler

Russ Dantzler (born December 5, 1951 in Ainsworth (Nebraska) ) is an American music producer and manager who was also active as a jazz writer.

After studying economics at the University of Nebraska , Dantzler initially worked part-time as a manager and producer of hot jazz bands before he made it his main job in 1980 and moved to New York City. There he worked a. a. for Claude "Fiddler" Williams , Earl May , Red Richards , Benny Waters , Al Gray , The Duke's Men by Arthur Baron , Carrie Smith , Bross Townsend , Norris Turney , Ken Peplowski and Bill Doggett , also as contract advisor for the Smithsonian Oral History Department and the Jazz Foundation of America . Dantzler also produced several albums by Claude Williams such as Live at J's (1993) and Swingtime in New York (1995, among others with Roland Hanna , Bill Easley ) and was a columnist for magazines such as Jazz Ambassadors Magazine and from 1993 for Scrapple from the Apple active. He is a member of organizations such as the Jazz Journalists Association , the National Jazz Service and the Duke Ellington Society .
