Russell Errett

Russell Errett (born November 10, 1817 in New York City , †  April 7, 1891 in Carnegie , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1883 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nothing is known about Russell Errett's youth and schooling. In 1829 he moved to Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania, where he worked in the newspaper industry. In 1860 he became comptroller in his new hometown. Between 1860 and 1861 and from 1872 to 1876 he was employed as a clerk in the administration of the Pennsylvania Senate . During the civil war he served as paymaster in the Union army . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . In 1867 he was State Senator in Pennsylvania; between 1869 and 1873 he worked for the tax authorities.

In the congressional election of 1876 Errett was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat James Herron Hopkins on March 4, 1877 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1883 . From 1881 he was chairman of the committee for public properties there. In 1882 he was not re-elected.

Between 1883 and 1887, Russell Errett worked as a pension agent for the Federal Pension Service in Pittsburgh. He died in Carnegie on April 7, 1891.
