Lines of development in the work of Rut Hanselmann cannot be tied to specific genres or the effort to create a recognizable style. Rather, the artist experiments in structure, form and color within seemingly delimited subjects such as still life or landscape painting . Abstract pictures can also be found in various creative phases. The spectrum of her painting is characterized by variants of expression between sensuality and sparse simplicity.

In the field of art in architecture , Rut Hanselmann created murals for private villas and public buildings (including Beilstein town hall, Stettenfelshalle Untergruppenbach, hospital at Gesundbrunnen Heilbronn), as well as frescoes and church windows (St. Nikolauskirche Unterheinriet).

A number of purchases were made by the public sector: among others from the municipal museums of Heilbronn, the cities of Beilstein, Eppingen, Heilbronn, Sindelfingen and the state of Baden-Württemberg.
