Ruth Hallensleben

Ruth Anna Maria Ottilia Martha Hallensleben (born June 1, 1898 in Cologne , † April 28, 1977 there ) was a German photographer .

Life and professional history

Hallensleben was the second child of the businessman Anton Hallensleben and his wife Philippine, b. Mahlendorf. After graduating from school in Cologne in 1914, she trained as an educator in Kassel until 1915 . After several positions, she decided to change careers in 1929 and from 1930 worked for three years as an intern for the Cologne-based portrait photographer Elsbeth Gropp . In 1934 she started her own business and opened her studio in the Hansahochhaus . In 1936 she was accepted into the Society of German Photographers .

In 1943 she moved from Cologne to Wiehl and there again in 1950 to a larger studio. She moved her studio one last time to Wuppertal-Elberfeld in 1961 . In 1973 she ended her professional photographic activity. She died unmarried in 1977 at the age of 78 and was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne. Hallensleben was an honorary member of the Association of Freelance Photo Designers .

Works

The main focus of Ruth Hallensleben's work is industrial photography . She made most of her industrial images on behalf of companies or publishers. There are also important contributions to landscape photography . In 1986 Ruth Hallensleben's photographic estate was acquired by the Ruhr Cultural Foundation . In 1989 it was handed over to the Ruhr Museum .

In 1998 Ruth-Hallensleben-Strasse in the Bilderstöckchen district of Cologne was named after her.
