Life

Ruth Jyrjo graduated from high school in Türi in 1987 and then studied, with a few interruptions, Estonian Philology at the University of Tartu . Jyrjo's first poems were published in a provincial magazine in 1985, and in book form they made their debut in 1990 in a cassette “Young Authors” together with Liisi Ojamaa , Triin Soomets , Aidi Vallik and Elo Viiding . A review said that “three representatives of their generation and two confident authors” would be presented. The new sovereign voices referred to Elo Viiding and Triin Soomets, which later actually became a fixture in contemporary Estonian poetry. Jyrjo's work, on the other hand, was judged more cautiously, although the critics agreed that her poetry is particularly "sincere and honest" and that "openness" and "emotional freedom" are her hallmarks.
