action
Malony was already in contact with the judiciary at the age of six years. His mother Séverine and the newborn brother Toni have to go to the youth judge Florence Blaque because Malony has already been absent from school for several weeks and refuses to cooperate with the social worker. Malony's father is no longer alive and his stepfather, who adopted him, has left the family. Sévérine admits to being overwhelmed with Malony because he keeps having outbursts of anger. She leaves him with the juvenile judge, who orders him to be placed in a home.
Years go by and Malony is finally 15 years old. He has hardly been to school for two years and is regularly seen by the police. His supervisor from the youth welfare office gives up and Malony gets a new one - Yann, who himself was once in prison. When Malony steals a car and frenzies the public, Florence Blaque sentenced him to six months at a Center éducatif fermé (CEF). This type of closed rehabilitation facility is intended to pave the way for him to return to school. Malony gets better and learns to write, but fails to introduce himself to school during which he has an uncontrollable fit of anger. At the CEF he meets Tess, the daughter of a supervisor. He sleeps with her, which is tantamount to rape that both of them cry. He can then open up to his mother on the phone and confess that he misses her. Shortly thereafter, Malony celebrated his 16th birthday at the CEF.
Since further school attendance is out of the question, Malony begins a work organized by Yann in a café. He is unmotivated and soon skips work. Yann forces him to go to work, is attacked by him with scissors and hits him. For this, Yann is cautioned by Florence Blaque. He is on the verge of giving up, seeing no progress in Malony and believing the situation is hopeless. Florence Blaque encourages him.
It is just before Christmas when Malony receives a visit from his mother at work. She admits that her son Toni was taken away by the authorities because she smoked joints with a friend in the presence of the child and Toni suffered smoke inhalation. Malony is angry, steals a car on December 24th, breaks into the foster family and gets Toni. When he tries to call his mother, Malony wants to prevent it - the car overturns. Malony is arrested shortly afterwards by Florence Blaque. Malony thanks, Yann is beside himself. Malony receives a visit from his mother in prison. He realizes that she is hiding her children from her new boyfriend and is beside himself. Shortly afterwards, Yann and Tess visit him. Tess admits to be pregnant, but Malony doesn't want the child. At the trial of the accident and the theft of the car, Malony apologizes to the injured party. Florence Blaque sentenced him to six months in prison, five of which were suspended, followed by a six-month stay in another CEF. Since Malony has already been in custody for a month, he is taken straight to the CEF. He runs away when he learns that Tess is in the hospital for an abortion. He is committed to her and the child and prevents the abortion. Because he ran away, he is not allowed to go on an excursion with his mother as planned. He injures the heavily pregnant CEF leader, whereupon Sévérine freaks out and Malony harshly expresses her opinion. For the first time she takes on responsibility as a mother. As a result, Malony's behavior improves. As part of his CEF stay, he works in the wood industry and drives forklifts. He develops trust in Yann and plans to be there for his child. He is celebrating his 17th birthday at the CEF. Soon afterwards he becomes a father. With the baby in his arms, he goes to Florence Blaque. She is about to retire. She has spent ten years of her working hours, among other things, looking after Malony. Malony slowly leaves the justice building with his child.
