Ruth Leibnitz
Ruth Leibnitz (born April 30, 1928 in Chemnitz ; † October 6, 2011 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German sculptor and graphic artist .
Life
Leibnitz studied music and singing in Dresden and Leipzig from 1945 to 1950 . She was then active as an opera singer (alto) until 1957, but switched to the fine arts in 1960, where she began training as a sculptor with Irmgard Biernath in Mainz. She later studied drawing at a Paris academy.
Ruth Leibnitz lived in Bad Nauheim until her death.
Act
The Ruth Leibnitz Prize she donated is awarded at regular intervals for special sculptural works - the works were presented until 2000 in the public art institution Neue Sächsische Galerie in Chemnitz. Since 2003, the Ruth Leibnitz Prize has been linked to the tender for the European Design Prize of the Baden-Württemberg State Guild of Wood Sculptors and is awarded by the City of Lichtenstein as a purchase price for the exhibition at the Daetz-Centrum Lichtenstein.
