Ryō Yamazaki
Ryō Yamazaki ( Japanese 山崎 良 Yamazaki Ryō ; born July 1, 1972 in Niigata Prefecture ) is a Japanese synthesizer programmer who occasionally appeared as a composer . After a stint at Jaleco , he worked for DigiCube until he joined Square Enix .
Life
Yamazaki grew up in Niigata and studied piano at Niigata University .
Career
In 1996 he started working at Jaleco. There he worked on composition, sound design and editing the voices of video game characters. This was followed by a project as composer, synthesis operator and sound designer for the Playstation title Dragon Seeds with Kenichi Arakawa .
In 1999 he started a close collaboration with Masashi Hamauzu for the music of the game SaGa Frontier 2 . Here he reworked the music, which at first appeared classical, with a few eccentric notes and thus shows what was artistically feasible with video game music. At about the same time he managed to implement the particularly convincing guitar sound for Chrono Cross , which Yasunori Mitsuda had wanted . Furthermore, on his suggestion, the song Soaring Wings for Final Fantasy was sung by Mio Kashiwabara . He previously met her at the University of Tokyo .
After these projects he was considered an established synthesizer operator. He continued to work on Playstation 2 titles. He revised Yoko Shimomura's popular score for Kingdom Hearts .
After smaller contributions to Final Fantasy XI Rise of the Zilart and Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, the titles Front Mission 4 , Front Mission Online , and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII were published . Although otherwise the composers reap the fame, Yamazaki managed to become known in the industry through his performance. Through his music he tries to bring a particularly realistic atmosphere into the games. In Front Mission Online he did little and let Hidenori Iwasaki and Tsuyoshi Sekito priority.
Lately he has made more minor contributions to position himself more broadly as an electro pop artist.
The latest release with his participation is LORD of VERMILION Re: 2 FAN KIT , which was released on August 9, 2011.
