Life

Ishimoto says he started music when he lived in the country and had nothing else to do. At first he worked as a synthesizer programmer before he finally became a composer. In 1999 he began working as a composer on Legend of Mana , a game from the Seiken Densetsu series . After a few more work as a synthesizer programmer, the PlayStation 2 soccer game World Fantasista was the first game for which he composed the music. Since 2004 he has been composing the music for games in the Final Fantasy series, for which he had already worked as a synthesizer programmer at Final Fantasy X. His last work as a synthesizer programmer was in 2005 for Kingdom Hearts II , and since then he has worked exclusively as a composer at Square Enix. After leaving Square Enix in 2017, he still worked as a freelancer as a composer for their games, such as 2018 Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and 2019 Kingdom Hearts III .

In addition to his work as a video game composer, Ishimoto was a member of the Japanese band SAWA under the name HIZMI . He founded the band in October 2008 with Sawa Kato, who also wrote some of the songs and lyrics on Ishimoto's soundtrack for The World Ends with You . In 2008 the band released their only album called 333 . After SAWA broke up, he founded the band The Death March in 2012 , which plays and rearranges music from soundtracks composed by Ishimoto.

Awards and style

Ishimoto was named tenth of the top ten composers of JRPGs (Japanese role-playing games) by the IGN in 2008 . He composes in many different genres including rock, hip-hop, electronica, and pop.
