Ryan Phinny

Ryan Phinny (born October 31, 1989 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American racing car driver .

Career

Phinny began his motorsport career in karting , where he won several championships. Due to his success in karting, he was invited to a test program by Red Bull in 2005 as one of three Americans. However, he was not selected for funding. In 2005 he made his formula racing debut in the US Formula BMW . After participating in just two races in his first year, he competed in every season race and the world finals in 2006. In the US Formula BMW, he achieved a podium finish and finished the season in ninth place overall.

After a one-year break in which Phinny was again active in karting, he switched to GT racing in 2008 . He took part in six races of the Grand-Am Sports Car Series . With two podium finishes, Phinny finished the season in 22nd place in the GT classification. In 2009 two more starts followed in this championship. He also took part in a race in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in the GT2 class .

After Phinny was again active in karting in 2010, he returned to formula racing in 2011 . For Brooks Associates Racing he took part in the third race weekend of the Indy Lights . At the end of the season he finished 30th overall. After a two-year hiatus, Phinny returned to Indy Lights in 2014 . His comeback was made possible by actor George Clooney's tequila brand Casamigos . Phinny contested three races for Bryan Herta Autosport / Jeffrey Mark Motorsport , and two for Belardi Auto Racing . A sixth place was his best result. He was twelfth in the drivers' championship.
