List of rose varieties

The rose variety 'Ryokkoh' (from Japanese ryokkō for "green light", syn. 'Chidori', 'Green light', 'Ryokko') is a pale yellow to light pink colored, slightly green-tinged floribunda rose that was produced by the rose grower Seizo Suzuki in 1886 in by the Kensei Rose Nursery and introduced to the Japanese market in 1991 as 'Chidori'. It comes from the pink floribunda rose 'Bridal Pink' ( Eugene S. Boerner 1967), the lavender-colored tea hybrid 'Twilight' (Eugene S. Boerner 1955) and an unnamed seedling.

education

The bushy, upright rose 'Ryokkoh' forms a sturdy, compact shrub. The rose plant is about 90 cm to a maximum of 140 cm high and 50 to 70 cm wide. The pale yellow to light pink colored flowers are arranged in small clusters and are formed from 17 to 25 petals . They form a 5 to 8 cm large, double-filled rose petal. The highly open rosebud with twisted petals later opens into a loosely filled flower, in the middle of which the yellow-orange stamens become visible. The open, cup-shaped or bowl-shaped flower is made up of petals that bend back slightly from the center. Especially in the juvenile flowering stage, the flowers are often slightly greenish. The rose variety has elongated, egg-shaped, leathery, glossy dark green leaves that are 6 to 8 cm in size and form a strong contrast to the bright flowers. The rose variety 'Ryokkoh' is characterized by a very delicate fragrance.

The remontant floribunda rose is hardy ( USDA climate zones 6b to 9b). It blooms continuously from June until the first frost and is largely resistant to the well-known rose diseases .

The rose variety 'Ryokkoh' thrives on loamy - humus soil in preferably full sun locations. It is suitable for planting borders and beds in groups.

The rose variety is grown in numerous rosariums and gardens, including in Tokyo Prefecture Jindai Botanical Garden, Kyoto Botanical Garden, Shinomiya Rose Garden and Echigo Hillside National Park.

Award

The rose variety 'Ryokkoh' was awarded a gold medal in 1989 at the Baden-Baden Rose Show, where the best innovations in international rose breeds are awarded annually.
