Sánchez is a city in the Samaná Province of the Dominican Republic .
The city with about 25,000 inhabitants is located in the northwest corner of the Bay of Samaná . From there a picturesque, winding, but well-developed country road leads over a mountain range to the seaside resort of Las Terrenas, 14 km away . Sánchez is also the starting point for boat trips to the Dominican Los Haitises National Park on the south side of Samaná Bay.
Sánchez is the birthplace of the Bishop of La Vega , Héctor Rafael Rodríguez Rodríguez .
