Sándor Galimberti (born May 31, 1883 in Kaposvár , Austria-Hungary ; † July 20, 1915 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian painter who lived at the beginning of the 20th century and is counted among the Hungarian savages (Fauves hongrois) by art history .

Life

In 1903 he met his second wife, the artist Valéria Dénes , when he was still studying with István Réti in Nagybánya . Then he went to Munich to study at Károly Ferenczy's private art school . In 1910 the couple moved to Paris . Between 1908 and 1913, Galimberti exhibited regularly at the Paris Autumn Salon and the Salon des Indépendants .

The styles of the two converged, although the works of Valéria Dénes were heavily influenced by Matisse . Dénes had attended the Academie Matisse in Paris for two years before meeting Galimberti. When the First World War broke out , the couple returned to Hungary via Amsterdam and Scheveningen , where Galimberti killed himself out of grief over the untimely death of his wife on her funeral day.
