Sándor Jemnitz

Sándor Jemnitz [ ˈʃaːndor ˈjɛmnits ] (born August 9, 1890 in Budapest , † August 8, 1963 in Balatonföldvár ) was a Hungarian conductor , musician and composer .

Life

From 1906 to 1908 Jemnitz completed a composition course at the Music Academy in Budapest . This was followed by studies at the Musikhochschule in Leipzig , where he was a student of Max Reger (composition), Arthur Nikisch (conducting), Karl Straube (organ) and Hans Sitt (violin).

From 1911 to 1913 he was a conductor at smaller opera houses. From 1913 to 1915 Jemnitz was a student of Arnold Schönberg at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin . He also worked as a music writer (various articles in "Die Musik") and as a music critic.

He composed a concerto for chamber orchestra, a concerto for string orchestra, an orchestral overture, prelude and fugue and seven miniatures for orchestra, chamber music works, three violin, three organ and five piano sonatas, other piano and organ pieces, choral music and songs.
