Sándor Varjas ( January 19, 1885 in Dombóvár - October 27, 1939 in Moscow ) was a Hungarian - Soviet philosopher and historian of philosophy.

Life

Varjas joined the Hungarian Social Democrats in 1905 . He studied history and philosophy at Budapest University and mathematics in Berlin . During the Hungarian Soviet Republic he was appointed professor at the University of Budapest. After the suppression of the soviet power , he was sentenced to forced labor. In 1919 Varjas joined the Hungarian Communist Party (MKP), from 1922 he lived in the Soviet Union. There he taught at the Institute of the Red Professorship .
