São João do Peso is a town and municipality in central Portugal .
history
The area was settled and administered by the Knights Templar in the 13th century after the Medieval Reconquista .
The municipality was created in 1618 by spinning off from the municipality of Vila de Rei.
In the registers of the year 1758, the community was led with its own church under the name Pezo. A chapel from the 17th century previously existed in the community.
In 1810 French troops marched through the municipality during the Napoleonic invasions .
In 1892, today's listed parish church was built, which was given its current form through renovations and alterations between 1988 and 1990.
