Saxon Citizen Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Saxon Citizens' Prize is an award from the State of Saxony that has been awarded since 2011.

The Free State of Saxony, together with the Frauenkirche Dresden Foundation and the Dresden Cultural Foundation , awards the Dresdner Bank the Saxon Citizens' Prize. He will be in the categories

  • societal and social engagement
  • cultural and spiritual commitment
  • Commitment in the school for democracy and tolerance
  • Engagement in sport for democracy and tolerance

and is endowed with 5000 euros each.

The Saxon Citizens' Prize emerged from the Saxon Promotion Prize for Democracy . In 2010 the AKuBiZ project , which does anti-racist work in the neo-Nazi stronghold of Saxon Switzerland , rejected the award. This was justified with the requirement that the award winners should sign a declaration against extremism. The AKuBiZ would have been obliged to check its alliance partners before working together, which the project rejected with a comparison to the methods of the GDR state security and instead of the current declaration called for a commitment to humanist ideals that are binding on human rights.

The incident led to the Saxon Promotion Prize being awarded in the coming year independently of the Saxon State Ministry. Since 2011, applicants for the Saxon Prize for Democracy do not have to sign any declaration of democracy . Since then, the Free State of Saxony, together with the Frauenkirche Dresden Foundation and the Dresden Cultural Foundation, has awarded the Dresdner Bank the Saxon Citizens' Prize.

Award winners

In 2011 and 2012 the prize was only awarded in the first two categories. The winners are listed in the order of the above categories.
