Sérgio Cabral Santos (born May 17, 1937 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian journalist , writer , actor , music critic and composer .

biography

He was born in the Cascadura district of Rio and grew up in the northern Calvacante district . He became an orphan at the age of four. His career began in 1957 as a police reporter for the Diário da Noite , a daily evening paper published by the media group Diários Associados . In 1969, already as the political editor of Última Hora , he teamed up with the cartoonist Jaguar and Tarso de Castro and created the opposition weekly newspaper O Pasquim , which is critical of the regime .

During the dictatorship , he was arrested for his newspaper activities. He later worked for newspapers, radio and television and, among others, was a councilor for the city of Rio between 1983 and 1993. In the same year he was appointed advisor to the Court of Auditors, a position he held until May 2007 when he retired .

He is the father of the journalist and politician Sérgio Cabral Filho , a former governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro .
