Sérgio Eduardo Ferreira da Cunha, Serginho for short (born October 15, 1972 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former Brazilian soccer player .

Career

Serginho played for Brazil in a game at the 1991 Junior World Cup . He competed for lesser-known clubs in his home country: Associação Atlética Portuguesa (RJ) , Olaria Atlético Clube , America FC (RJ) , Vitória Futebol Clube (ES) . At the age of just under 22 he moved to Madeira , Portugal to CD Nacional Funchal and was instrumental in the club's rise from the third via the Liga de Honra to the Primeira Liga , where the club finally established itself.

In the Primeira Liga 2003/04 , already towards the end of his career, Serginho scored twice in 19 games and qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time in club history via fourth place with Nacional ; after another season, he went to the lower divisions in his home country to Juventude de Caxias and Estácio de Sá Futebol Clube and in Portugal ( União Madeira and UD Santana , both in Madeira) before ending his career in 2007. He was the all-time top scorer of Nacional with around 100 goals and had the most appearances for this club with 250.
