Sergio Rodrigues

Sergio Rodrigues (born September 22, 1927 in Rio de Janeiro , † September 1, 2014 in Botafogo , Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian architect and furniture designer .

Life

Sergio Rodrigues graduated in architecture from the FNA Universidade do Brasil in 1951 and worked primarily as an interior designer. He became internationally known with his “Mole” armchair (1957), which won the 1961 International Furniture Biennale in Cantù , Italy and is part of the permanent exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City . Other well-known works are the “Tonico” chair (1963) and the “Leve Kilin PL-104” chair (1973).

In 1960, a large number of Rodrigues furniture was used in the government city planned by Oscar Niemeyer in Brasília .

In 1975 he was awarded by the Instituo de Arquitetura do Brasil .
