Só Pra Contrariar
Só Pra Contrariar ( Portuguese for 'Just to resist' ), abbreviated to SPC, is one of the most successful Brazilian pagoda bands .
Career
Só Pra Contrariar was founded in Uberlândia , Minas Gerais in 1989 by Alexandre Pires, Fernando Pires, Hamilton Faria, Juliano Pires, Luisinho Vital, Luis Fernando, Alexandre Popó, Rogério Viana and Serginho Sales. The band became known for their very melodic and romantic pagoda songs, which became very successful. In 1993 their first album "Que Se Chama Amor" was released, the CD "Só Pra Contrariar" in 1997 sold 3 million copies. In 2002 SPC released the CD "Acústico", on which various other artists such as Caetano Veloso e Gilberto Gil participated. In 2002 after eight released albums, Alexandre Pires left the group and pursued his solo career. His brother Fernando Pires, the drummer for SPC, took his place. Without Alexandre Pires, SPC had to go new musical ways, more to the origins of samba than to romantic songs. In 2003 she remembered her ten-year career with the CD “Produto Nacional”. The song "Minha Fantasia", based on a song by Lenny Kravitz , was a great success. Her biggest hits include "Depois do Prazer", "Essa Tal Liberdade", "Minha Medade", "Sai da minha Aba", "Mineirinho", the album "Depois do Prazer" sold 4.2 million copies, followed by "Santo Santo" with 3.2 million sales.
