The Söder Malarstrand is a street on Södermalm in Stockholm , extend along the south bank of Riddarfjaerden and is the southern counterpart to Norr Malarstrand . In the east, Söder Mälarstrand ends at the Slussen traffic junction and in the west at the island of Långholmen .

Around 1880 there was no continuous beach road here, just an uneven beach line with jetties and many small businesses. For the street name revision in 1885, Söder Mälarstrand got its current name. Söder Mälarstrand was never as elegant as Norr Mälarstrand, because industrial companies settled here. One of the largest was the Münchenbryggeriet brewery , which was built in 1857 by the wholesale company CC Brusell & Co. In 1971 the last beer bottle was filled and the 50,000 m² facility was rebuilt. Today, a trade fair and conference center is located here.

Another striking building is the Maria-Elevator ( Mariahissen ). This elevator, similar to the not far away Katarina elevator ( Katarinahissen ), was built in 1885 to facilitate the connection from the steep, high Mariaberget to the beach. From here the steam boats drove to Riddarholmen in the 1920s and 1930s . Up to 3,000 people a day chose this route. Elevators were shut down at the end of the 1930s. After renovation work in the mid-1970s, today u. a. Architectural offices, advertising agencies and various small businesses in the building. However, the elevator is no longer in operation.

A little parallel to Södar Mälarstrand, the Monteliusvägen footpath leads above the road .
