Soeren Pellmann

Sören Pellmann (born February 11, 1977 in Leipzig ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). In the 2017 Bundestag election , he won the direct mandate in the Leipzig II constituency (153) .

Life

Sören Pellmann is the son of the historian and Saxon state politician Dietmar Pellmann (1950–2017).

From 1983 to 1995 he first attended the polytechnic high school " Adolf Hennecke " and then the Lichtenberg-Gymnasium in Leipzig-Grünau , where he passed his Abitur in 1995. This was followed by community service at the city of Leipzig in a home for severely multi-handicapped children and young people.

During his law studies at the University of Leipzig he worked a. a. for the former members of the Bundestag Barbara Höll and Heidemarie Lüth . He then studied teaching for special needs schools with a focus on pedagogy for the mentally handicapped and pedagogy for the learning disabled until 2009. He then completed his legal clerkship at the Adolph Diesterweg special needs school in Leipzig and the Rosenweg special needs school for the mentally handicapped.

Since summer 2012 he has been employed as a primary school teacher for the Free State of Saxony.

On his 16th birthday he joined the Democratic Socialism Party (PDS). There he exercised various functions (local chairman, arbitration commission, city council of Leipzig). After the 2007 unification with the election alternative Social Justice (WASG) he remained a member of the party Die Linke . There he was a member of the Leipzig city council, press spokesman, campaign manager for various elections and deputy city chairman. Since 2015 he has been a member of the state board of Die Linke Sachsen .

With the local elections in 2009 , he moved into the Leipzig City Council in his constituency of Leipzig-Grünau for the first time and was re-elected in 2014 - with the best percentage result in the city. Since March 2012 he has been the parliamentary group leader in the city council of Leipzig. In 2019 Pellmann was re-elected to the Leipzig City Council.

For the 2017 federal election , Sören Pellmann ran as a direct candidate in the Leipzig II constituency (153) and was able to prevail with 25.3% of the vote against Thomas Feist (CDU), who won the constituency in 2009 and 2013. In doing so, he won the only direct mandate for the left outside Berlin and for the first time a direct mandate for his party in Saxony.

In the 19th electoral term in the Bundestag he is a member of the Petitions Committee and Sports Committee. He is also a member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment and the chairman of his parliamentary group in this committee. He is a deputy member of the Committee for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth.
