Local elections in Saxony 2009
The 2009 local elections in Saxony took place on June 7, 2009. In all Saxon municipalities 491 were city council - and local elections and 841 Ortschaftsrat elections conducted. The 2009 European Parliament elections also took place on the same day . In parallel, local elections are being held in six other federal states . The election was seen as setting the mood for the state elections in Saxony in 2009 . The turnout was 47.6%.
Legal
The local election in Saxony is a proportional representation with open lists . The voter can only choose between lists on which the candidates of the parties and groups of voters are listed. Each voter has three votes in the election of the municipal council. The voter can distribute these to candidates from one list or different lists ( variegation ) or give all three votes to one candidate on the list ( accumulate ).
