Southeast front

The Southeast Front ( Russian Юго-Восточный фронт ) of the Red Army was formed by order of August 5, 1942 from parts of the Stalingrad Front using the command elements of the 1st Panzer Army and the dissolved Southwest Front . The south-western front was disbanded in mid-July in the course of the German Don offensive and its troops were divided between the Stalingrad front and the southern front . The primary task of the new south-eastern front was to repel the advance of the German 6th Army against the Volga and to prevent the threatened enclosure of Stalingrad . To this end, the front command were initially 52 , 57 . Subordinated to the 64th and 64th Army , later the 28th and 62nd Army and the 8th Air Army were added. On September 28, 1942, the southeast front was renamed the second formation of the Stalingrad Front , the previous Stalingrad Front formed the Don Front .
