Transbaical Front

The Transbaikal Front ( Russian Забайкальский фронт ) was a formation of the Red Army , which together with the first Far Eastern Front and the 2nd Far Eastern Front in May 1945 in the southeast of the Mongolian People's Republic was used in the Tehran Conference and the Yalta Conference adopted To fulfill the Soviet Union's obligation to enter the war against Japan three months after the victory in the West . All three fronts and the Pacific Fleet were subordinate to the Supreme Command of the Soviet Forces in the Far East .

Commander of the Transbaikal Front was Marshal of the Soviet Union Rodion Jakowlewitsch Malinowski , (1st) member of the Military Council Lieutenant General AN Tewschenkow and Chief of Staff Army General Matwei Vasiljewitsch Sakharov . The Transbaikal Front consisted of the 17th Army, 36th Army, 39th Army and 53rd Army, the 6th Guards Armored Army, the 12th Air Army and the Soviet-Mongolian Cavalry Mechanized Group ( Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army ), as well as an Air Defense Army as a means of Air defense leadership. In addition, there were associations, troops and units that were directly subordinate to the front.

From the 8th / 9th August the front troops attacked the Japanese puppet states of Manchukuo and Mengjiang in a southeast direction as part of the “Manchurian Strategic Operation” ( Operation Auguststurm ) .
