The 1st Far Eastern Front ( Russian 1-й Дальневосточный фронт ) was a formation of the Red Army , which was formed together with the Transbaikal Front and the 2nd Far Eastern Front from May 1945 in the area between Khabarovsk and Vladivostok , around which in the conference of Tehran and the To fulfill the commitment of the Soviet Union assumed by the Yalta Conference to enter the war against Japan three months after the victory in the West . All three fronts as well as the Pacific Fleet were subordinate to the high command of the Soviet troops in the Far East .

The commander of the 1st Far Eastern Front was Marshal of the Soviet Union Kirill Afanassjewitsch Merezkow , (1st) member of the military council Colonel General TF Shtykow and Chief of Staff Lieutenant General AN Krutikow . The 1st Far Eastern Front consisted of the 1st Red Banner Army , 5th Army , 25th Army and 35th Army , the 10th Mechanized Corps , the 9th Air Army and an Operational Group as well as an Air Defense Army as a means of conducting air defense. In addition, there were associations, troops and units that were directly subordinate to the front.

From August 9, 1945, the front troops attacked westward.
