history
The South Tyrolean transport structures came into being in 1994 when SAD AG, controlled by the state of South Tyrol, was split up into a transport company ( SAD Nahverkehr ) and an infrastructure company (STA). After the STA was originally primarily dedicated to real estate management, it became a key company in the expansion of public transport in the 2000s .
The first major undertaking of the South Tyrolean transport structures was the restart of the Vinschgau Railway , which was handed over by the state to the state of South Tyrol in the 90s. In 1999 the South Tyrolean provincial government commissioned the STA to plan for reactivation and modernization. Since it reopened in 2005, the Vinschgau Railway has been run by the STA.
The next major project was the comprehensive modernization of the Pustertal Railway, which was carried out from 2008 to 2011 in cooperation with Italian railway companies. On the other hand, only minor adaptations could be carried out on the Bolzano – Meran railway and the Brenner railway , which are still under the supervision of the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana . The STA acquired several Stadler Flirt sets for the operation of the routes mentioned .
Between 2008 and 2013, the Rittner Bahn , the Rittner Seilbahn and the Mendelbahn , all of which are owned by the STA, were extensively renovated. In addition, the South Tyrolean transport structures were active in the areas of bus and bicycle transport as well as the barrier-free design of public facilities.
Since 2016, the STA has been promoting the topic of "sustainable mobility" for the South Tyrolean provincial administration and coordinating the Green Mobility initiative . The traffic safety center Safety Park has also been part of the STA since the beginning of 2016.
