The locomotives of the series ТУ5 (German transcription TU5) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) are narrow-gauge diesel locomotives . They were created on the basis of the previously procured ТУ4 diesel locomotive .
history
The locomotive appeared in 1967 as an addition to the SŽD series ТУ4 , with which it was built for several years. Outwardly it differs only slightly from this series, from the machine side it is characterized by the new engine 1Д12-400 ( 1D12-400 ) with approximately 400 hp, which is a variant of the diesel engine W-2 . The use of this engine brought an increase in the axle load to 6t, which meant that the locomotives could only be used on railways with a stronger superstructure . The locomotive is equipped with the УГП-350-350 ( UGP-350-350 ) fluid transmission from the Murom factory , which was also used in the SŽD series ТГМ1 .
A total of 94 machines were delivered by the Kambarka machine factory between 1967 and 1973 . The locomotives were primarily used on the narrow-gauge railways in the Belorezk and Balachna areas. There is no information on the Internet about the whereabouts of the locomotives.
Modifications
About 30 diesel locomotives with the designation ТУ5Э ( TU5E ) were delivered with a gauge of 1000 mm for work in tropical areas in Vietnam . There were also about 20 machines for the narrow-gauge railways on forest railways and peat railways .
