The locomotives of the SŽD series ТГМ1 (German transcription TGM 1) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) are wide-gauge diesel locomotives with diesel-hydraulic power transmission primarily for shunting services . It is the first series-production Soviet diesel locomotive with fluid transmission .

history

T 334.004 of the ČSD (analogous to the SZD series Д Г 14 ) in the Railway Museum Lužná u Rakovníka (2012)

In 1956, two three-axle diesel locomotives with hydrodynamic power transmission were built in the Murom factory for shunting . It was designed in the same plant and was created on the basis of DRG V 36 , one of which was left as a bag locomotive in what was then the USSR after the Second World War . In the same factory, a steam locomotive for armored trains with the designation 9 P had previously been built, the newly created diesel locomotive matched its steam predecessor in terms of performance and tractive power.

From 1956 to 1972, 3368 diesel locomotives of this series were built. Originally they were called the M series , later their name was changed to ТГМ1 . The majority of the diesel locomotives of this series were used in industrial operations in shunting, some of the locomotives were also used for shunting on railway stations of the state railways and in shunting depots. In the course of its long service, the locomotive was characterized by ease of use and maintenance. She particularly appreciated the machinist's relatively comfortable cab (without drafts, comfortable driving seats, good noise insulation). In 1990 the last diesel locomotive ТГМ1 from the inventory of the state railway was deleted from the inventory lists.

technical description

Like its prototype, the locomotive is a locomotive with a one-sided driver's cab and a front structure that surrounds the engine room. Under the cabin of the machinist who is blind shaft is arranged as the transmission output. As with the V 36 , the coupling gear sets are connected with coupling rods .

The diesel engine is a twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with the designation 1 D 12-400 . It has an output of 294 kW (400 hp) and was manufactured in the mechanical engineering works in Barnaul . Fluid drives from Voith were used on the first locomotives of the series, and also on some of the following series . Later these transmissions were copied by the Murom works and used for the locomotives. The gearboxes have a flow converter for the start-up process and two fluid couplings depending on the speed of the locomotive. A downstream gearbox for controlling the maneuvering / route gear is arranged downstream of the fluid transmission. The compressor for the compressed air of the brake system was generated by an air compressor driven directly by the diesel engine.

The operator's drive switch had 16 positions. The diesel engine was controlled via electromagnetic and electropneumatic valves. A boiler was used to heat the machinist's cabin in the cold season and to preheat the engine before starting. However, the boiler proved to be not very reliable, so that the cooling water from the warmed-up engine was used to heat the driver's cab. A radiator was installed in the cabin for this purpose.

Some examples of the machines have been preserved, for example as exhibits in railway museums and in some examples during operation in private industrial companies. The ТГМ1.2925 is in the Railway Museum in Novosibirsk . The ТГМ1.1503 is one of the oldest operating locomotives . It was built in 1963 and works in an industrial company in Minsk .
