José Joel Sotelo Villalobos (born July 13, 1970 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican volleyball and beach volleyball player and coach.

Career hall

Sotelo played as an indoor volleyball player for the Spanish club Arona Tenerife Sur, among others .

Career beach volleyball

Sotelo played his first international beach tournaments in 1998 with Alfonso Jackson Avina . The two Mexicans reached the 25th place twice at the Open tournaments in Lignano and Moscow . At their last appearance together they reached the top ten for the first time as ninth at the Alanya Open. Sotelo already played the last tournament of the year in Vitória with his new partner Juan Alberto Rodríguez Ibarra . At the start of 1999, Sotelo / Ibarra finished seventh in front of their home crowd in Acapulco . In Toronto and Stavanger they came in 13th. They also took part in the 1999 World Cup in Marseille , where they finished 25th. Then they were again 13th in Tenerife and Ostend . They were able to repeat the result on the island in 2000. Before that, they reached 17th place in both Guarujá and Rosarito . In their first Grand Slam in Chicago they reached 25th place. In addition, Sotelo / Ibarra qualified for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . There they sat in the first game against the Australians Prosser / Zahner . In the round of 16 they had to admit defeat to the US duo Heidger / Wong without winning a point.

In 2002 Sotelo formed a new duo with José Luis Martell . In the first year, 33rd place at the Gstaad Open and 25th place at the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt were the duo's best results. In 2003, Sotelo / Martell did not get past 57th place in two open tournaments and the Berlin Grand Slam.

Career as a coach

After his career as a player, Sotelo became the national coach of the Mexican beach volleyball teams.

Sotelo is married to the Mexican beach volleyball player Mayra Huerta .
