STALKER: Call of Pripyat (usually just called Stalker CoP for short ) is a computer game by the Ukrainian developer GSC Game World , which is set in the exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant . It is the third installment in the Stalker series that began with Shadow of Chernobyl and continues shortly after it ends.

STALKER stands for Scavenger, Trespasser, Adventurer, Loner, Killer, Explorer and Robber , in German looters, intruders, adventurers, loners, murderers, explorers and robbers.

The game belongs to the genre of first-person shooters , but also has role-playing elements .

Call of Pripyat uses the X-Ray Engine 1.6 and also supports DirectX 11 graphics cards. The exterior architecture and, in particular, the representation of nature and the weather are very realistic, as is the incidence of light.

Action and gameplay

The story begins right after the end of Shadow of Chernobyl: After the government has discovered an open way into the center of the zone, it starts a major military operation called "Fairway", which is supposed to bring the nuclear power plant under their control. According to the plan of operations, the first military unit is to conduct an aerial reconnaissance and create a map showing all anomalies so that the security forces can avoid them. But despite the thorough preparation, the operation failed: all the vanguard helicopters crashed.

To gather information about the failed operation, the Ukraine Security Service sends an agent to the zone center. As Alexander Degtyarev, the player slips into the skin of the agent who is supposed to solve the helicopter crashes. In three large areas he meets many of the well-known characters and some new ones, completes side quests and also meets the stalker of the first part, Strelok.

Unlike its predecessors, the game does not have a tutorial. The player is left alone on the edge of an area and is immediately confronted with the zone. The game is therefore more difficult to learn for newcomers; Those familiar with the earlier parts will, however, find their way around faster.

Similar to Shadow of Chernobyl, multiple endings are possible. However, these are composed of different partial versions, which reflect the successes and defeats of the player (e.g. finding the legendary "oasis" or the death of NPCs ).

STALKER - Shadow of Chernobyl

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl is the first part of the Stalker series and takes place in the exclusion zone around Chernobyl . The story of the reactor catastrophe of 1986 continues, after which another explosion takes place there in 2006, creating a "zone" with a number of scientific anomalies.

At the beginning of the game in 2012, the player lost his memory. Others only call him a marked person and he only knows from his previous life how to kill a certain Strelok.

STALKER - Clear Sky

In Stalker: Clear Sky , a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl , 2010 for the first time a stalker penetrates into the center of the contaminated zone, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and causes a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions: a violent burst of anomalous energy changes the entire zone . From now on there are no more safe places and the entire area sinks into pure chaos. Not just many stalkers, but entire expedition troops, consisting of a multitude of people, die or remain cut off from the safe world in the lost territories. Their sectors are constantly plagued by further outbreaks and mutate due to anomalies into a hostile environment. Only a few scattered groups are left and the relentless struggle between the factions begins. There are no longer any old friends or enemies. From now on each group is on their own and struggles for bare survival.

Parallels to the computer game Metro 2033

Some GSC Game World employees later switched to another Ukrainian game developer called 4A Games . You created the game Metro 2033 .
