The SADC Gateway Port , also Port of Walvis Bay SADC Gateway or Port of Walvis Bay North Port , is a seaport under construction five kilometers north of the Namibian coastal city of Walvis Bay . It is officially an extension of the Walvis Bay harbor , about seven kilometers away from it. The deep-sea port to all phases until the early 2020s with an area of 1330 upon completion hectares be one of the largest ports in Africa. SADC Gateway Port is designed to serve as a gateway to the southern African development community , SADC.

Like the other two ports in Namibia, it is to be operated by the Namibian Port Authority .

construction

The first plans for the construction of the port became known in 2013. With a construction volume of 60 billion Namibian dollars , it is the largest construction project in Namibia since independence in 1990. The port is to be built in three phases, with phase I starting in early 2015. This should be completed by mid-2019 ^[obsolete] . Then further phases should begin.
