The Brigittenauer AC , with full name 1. Brigittenauer Athletiksport Club , often just called BAC , was a football club from Vienna , which on August 27, 1925 from the merger of the former second division SC Donaustadt and the second division after two seasons of first class in 1924 relegated FC Ostmark Wien , founded in 1905 and 1910 respectively. The greatest successes in the club's history were the Austrian runner-up title in 1927 in the first season after promotion, as well as reaching the cup final in 1933, the same year when the club was last relegated from the first division. In total, the BAC played five seasons in the top league under this name. The most famous players from the heyday of the Brigittenauer were Karl Adamek and Heinrich Hiltl .

After relegation to the second division in 1938, the club visibly disappeared into insignificance. In 1972 and 1974 mergers followed with the SC lawn player Höchstädt to form Brigittenauer AC-Hochstädt and with SV Helios Brigittenau to form Brigittenauer AC . In 1974 it was renamed 1. Brigittenauer SC . In 1993, in the fourth-class Viennese city league , a game association with the SKV fire brigade became the Brigittenauer SC fire brigade , after which the club was now called Brigittenauer SC after its dissolution the following year . In 2009 the last merger with ISS Admira Landhaus took place , whereby the name Brigittenau disappeared. Admira Landhaus plays in the Vienna City League in 2011/12.

history

FC Ostmark Vienna

FC  Ostmark was founded in Vienna as early as 1910, but the club did not appear until it was promoted to 2nd class A, the second highest division at the time after the end of the First World War in 1919. The club did well in the league from the start claim. Ostmark already reached 7th of 15 places in his first second-rate season. In the following season, Ostmark was two points ahead of the later fusion club SC Donaustadt champion of the 2nd class A and rose in 1921 in the highest Austrian league. However, this soon saw the first setbacks for the football club.

Ostmark could only achieve 6 wins in 24 games, at the end of the season found himself at the bottom of the table and had to move into second class. An unforgettable game in the club's history, however, in the relegation season was the hard-fought 5: 3 victory at Ostmark-Platz against the Austrian record champions Rapid Wien on November 12, 1921. Ostmark dominated the 2nd class North in the following year and made it in 1923 at the age of 16 Win instant promotion out of 20 games. Internationally, with the 2-1 win against the Budapest TC in a friendly game, they were able to achieve a respectable success, in the cup they made people sit up and take notice by reaching the round of 16 for the first time. The Viennese were again unable to assert themselves in the first division and were relegated to penultimate place with only 2 wins in 22 games. After the club narrowly missed promotion in the now professional second division with 5th place, it joined forces with SC Donaustadt in August 1925 to form Brigittenauer AC.

SC Donaustadt

The SC Donaustadt was founded in 1905 in the (today's) Vienna Donaustadt . The club was already represented in the second-class 2nd class A in the first season of the Austrian championship . The club held up well in the early years and always occupied top places in the table. In the 1916/17 season they finally won the 2nd class championship, three points ahead of SC Hakoah . Due to the First World War, however, the rule of ascent was suspended. In the following season in 1918, the Donaustädter met the same fate. This time the championship title was won in front of the SC Rot-Stern . The successes in the cup acted as a small consolation during this time. In 1918 they could even reach the semi-finals, where they lost 1: 2 to Floridsdorfer AC on the Hohe Warte . In the following years, when promotion would have been possible again, the league no longer wanted to succeed.

The SC Donaustadt always played for the championship after the end of the First World War, but always had to admit defeat. In 1921 one was only beaten by two points by the later merger partner FC Ostmark. After a professional second division was introduced in Austria in 1924, the club finally decided to voluntarily relegate to the third division, a year later he played as Brigittenauer AC in exactly this league.

The rapid rise of the Brigittenauer AC

The newly formed club, which always led the year 1905, i.e. that of its predecessor club SC Donaustadt, as the year of foundation, presented itself strongly in the second division from the start. Unbeaten was the immediate promotion to the first division. The Brigittenauer AC also performed extremely well in the Austrian championship. On the last day of the match they were only one point behind leaders SK Admira Wien . The last game of the championship for the Brigittenauer was the away game against Admira. In the first half of the season, the Floridsdorf team were defeated 2-0 at home. However, the Admirans presented themselves strong from the start of the game and led 1-0 at the break. With three goals in three minutes after the restart for the Admira, the defeat of the Brigittenauer was sealed. The game ended 0: 5, the Brigittenauer AC was "only" runner-up.

The preliminary low point and ascent

In 1928, the Brigittenauer AC was surprisingly third from bottom of the championship and only narrowly escaped relegation. In 1929, the club fared even worse, and he was the last to enter the second division. However, the Brigittenauer AC soon found its way back to its old strength. 126 goals in 26 games were only enough for second place in the second division, one point behind SK Slovan . In 1931, however, they could clearly prevail and were, this time with 127 goals, undefeated champions of the league.

In the first division, however, it didn't really work out. After a good 7th place in 1933, they came back only last and had to relegate again. A completely different picture of the team was shown in the cup competition. Victories over the SC Burgtheater and Gersthof-Währing brought the Brigittenauer to the quarter-finals, where they met SC Hakoah . After 90 minutes it was 1: 1, but the club was able to make a sensational 5: 1 in extra time. Against the Wiener Sport-Club the semi-final game ended 4: 4 after extra time and had to be played again. With a goal from Pollak in the 85th minute, they won the replay 1-0 and stood in the final against Austria, who was great at the time . A goal by Spechtl was enough for the favorites to win the cup competition over Brigittenauer AC.

The preliminary end

After relegation and unsatisfactory results, the first team was dissolved in 1933. After relegation from the second division in 1938, the club fell into insignificance.
