history

The club was founded in 1897 under the name FC Fidel Cottbus , and in October 1897 the name was changed to SC Victoria 1897 Cottbus (partly historically also SK Viktoria 1897 Cottbus ). It is thus, after SC Alemannia Cottbus , the oldest football club in Cottbus. At the suggestion of Viktoria Cottbus , the Niederlausitzer Ballspiel-Vereine Association was founded in 1900 with other Cottbus football clubs . A regular game operation did not take place initially and the association dissolved again in 1901, so that Viktoria Cottbus joined the Free Berlin Football Association in 1902 . In the first season, Viktoria was tied with BFC Vorwärts 1890 Berlin and competed in a playoff for the championship of this association against Vorwärts Berlin. This game was lost 2-1, so that one was runner-up in the association. In 1904 the Association of Niederlausitzer Ballspiel-Vereine was re-established and Viktoria Cottbus thus took part in the Niederlausitzer football championship , which was held from 1906 under the Southeast German Football Association . Winning the Niederlausitzer football championship never succeeded, at that time it was qualitatively inferior to the other Cottbus football clubs. The greatest success was the second place in Niederlausitz in the 1909/10 season .

After the Second World War, the football clubs were dissolved. Unlike other associations from Cottbus, such as the Cottbus FV 1898 , Viktoria Cottbus was re-established . In the 1960s the association was affiliated with the VEB Energiekombinat Cottbus and has been known since then under the name BSG Turbine Cottbus . In the following years several new sections were founded, such as B. Wrestling, a women's sports group or fistball. In 1991, the football section spun off from the BSG and, based on the previous name, gave itself the name FSV Viktoria 1897 Cottbus . After a few years of playing in the Brandenburg Süd regional class, the club is currently playing in the Niederlausitz regional league.
