The Braies Valley ( Italian Valle di Braies ), simply Prague called, is a valley in the South Tyrolean Dolomites . It belongs entirely to the municipality of Prague , surrounded by mountains, it is the Pragser Dolomites . Higher parts of the valley are protected in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park .

The Pragser Tal branches off between Monguelfo (municipality of Monguelfo-Taisten ) and Niederdorf from the Puster Valley to the south and soon after the valley entrance divides into two branches - a south-western ( Inner Prague ) and a southern one ( Extra-Prague ).

The southwestern branch is the Pragser Bach flows through, offering the two factions Innerprags with the community center forging (1210 1220  m slm ) and St. Veit place. The Pragser Wildsee ( 1494  m ) lies at the end of the valley .

In the branch that is moving to the south is the fraction of Ausserprags with Bad Altprags . It is drained by the Stollabach , the most important tributary of the Pragser Bach, and rises at its end to the Plätzwiese high plateau .

Geologically, the Braies Valley lies in the southern Alps . Layers of the Val Gardena Formation , the Buchenstein Formation , the Werfen Formation and finally the Schlern dolomite lie above a base made of quartz phyllite . The valley floor is mainly covered with fill material. While Innerprags is characterized by a wide valley floor with gently rising slopes behind it, Ausserprags has more rugged terrain.

The mountain slopes of the Braies Valley are largely overgrown by montane or subalpine spruce - larch forests. Pine trees are also found on south-facing locations and firs on northern slopes . Green alders can be found in lower elevations, while gray alders and white willows predominate along the streams in the valley floor .
