Series 14WE of the SKM
In 2005, the city express train service began in the Polish capital, Warsaw. The operator is the newly founded "Szybka Kolej Miejska", which took over some of the EN57 class railcars from PKP .
From 2005, six EN57 were converted into low-floor railcars of the 14WE series at Newag in Nowy Sącz , a former repair shop (ZNTK) of the PKP. The entire structure and the motors were replaced here.
The 14WE were initially used on the S1 Warszawa Zachodnia – Warszawa-Falenica line, from 2006 on the S2 Pruszków - Sulejówek line, replacing the S1, in mixed operation with EN57. In 2007 the SKM is to receive two more 14WE.
EN61 series of the PKP
A seventh 14WE was converted for PKP in 2006. This was classified as EN61-01, but also bears the number 14WE-07. It has a gold-colored finish and is used as the “Pociąg Papieski” (Pope Train) between Kraków and Wadowice , where a memorial was set up in the birthplace of Karol Józef Wojtyła, who later became Pope John Paul II .
