SM City North EDSA
The SM City North EDSA is an account opened on November 25, 1985 Shopping Center in Quezon City to the Philippines . It is located between North Avenue and the EDSA , after which the building complex was named. In the meantime, the SM City North EDSA was the second largest shopping center in the Philippines. Between 2008 and 2014, after several extensions, it was even the largest before it was replaced by the SM Supermall . According to Forbes , it was now the tenth largest shopping mall in the world. The SM City North EDSA is operated by SM Prime Holdings , a local company that is also the largest mall operator in Southeast Asia . From September 1st to 6th, 2009, the world championship pool took place in the mall .
history
The property was developed in 1978. The plans for the construction of the shopping center were, however, rather vague. Henry Sy Sr. , the owner of SM Prime Holdings , believed that the construction of the mall could benefit regional traffic to and from Luzon as well as the other approaching parts of Manila . Construction began in 1983 and was completed two years later. On November 25, 1985, the SM City North EDSA was officially opened. At that time, the total area of the building complex was approximately 125,000 square meters.
On November 25, 2010 the shopping mall celebrated its 25th anniversary.
City Center
The City Center is the main building of the shopping mall complex. It was officially opened on November 25, 1985. The original building only had three floors. A fourth floor was built to meet the great demand. The newly renovated city center has a dome-shaped skylight. The center of the City Center has a variety of shopping opportunities, including the main SM Store and SM Supermarket . There is also a cinema with the IMAX Theater in the City Center building. It is the second IMAX theater in the Philippines. On the second floor there are various restaurants , cafes and other snack options .
Interior Zone (Annex 1)
The former car park or Annex 1 was the first extension of the mall. It was completed in February 1988. It was a parking lot over four floors. Two more floors were built in the 2000s. The car park is connected to the main building (City Center) via a pedestrian bridge, which is located on the second floor. Today there is a lifestyle center at the former parking garage, the Interior Zone , which was opened in July 2009.
The Annex (Annex 2)
The original annex building was built in July 1989 and was then called The SM City Annex, consisting of three corridors and a connection to the city center. It housed around 200 shops and restaurants on one side and four additional cinemas, a bowling center and a bingo hall on the other. In addition to the administrative office area, there was also a small beauty clinic in the basement. In 2002 the four cinemas were closed; In 2007, the entire building section was closed and demolished. In December 2008 the new annex was opened with new shops, restaurants, a new bowling center and a video arcade. The new annex has an area of 90,000 square meters.
The Block (Annex 3)
The Block opened in July 2006 . The part of the building contains several shops, four cinemas, several restaurants and a 10,000 square meter hypermarket . The complex covers a total of around 76,500 square meters.
The North Link (Annex 4)
The North Link is located between the Interior Zone and the City Center, which was officially opened in July 2010. It mainly houses office buildings, but also a few smaller shops. The north complex is connected to the other building complexes via a bridge system.
Sky Garden and Skydome
The Sky Garden is a long, curvilinear park. It opened in 2009. 55 different types of plants grow in the attic garden. A modern drainage system enables water to be preserved. The water system in the Sky Garden has two bubblers and a simultaneous flow in the center, as well as waterfalls on the second floor of the Sky Garden. Another attraction is the Skydome , a 1500 person event center. Many cultural events take place here, including concerts.
