The SSV Bad Hönningen is a German sports club based in the Rhineland-Palatinate Bad Hönningen in the district of Neuwied .

history

Time before World War II

The association was founded in 1920. At that time the club also had an athletics department. The soccer team reached the preliminary round of the Middle Rhine Cup for the first time in January 1933. Until the middle of 1933, the district class could also be held.

Time in higher amateur leagues

In 1950, the association took on the nickname Bad , which the city was also given that year. The team also took part in the 1950/51 season as a climber in the Landesliga Rheinland and ended up there at the end of the season with 28:32 points in ninth place in the North relay . The team was able to hold on to another season. For the 1952/53 season, however, due to a change within the team, it went back down to the 2nd amateur league. After this season it even went back down to the district class for the next season. In the 1955/56 season the team played again in the 2nd amateur league within the Koblenz-North season. After the 1957/58 season, the team was then champions of its group and played a promotion round against the winners of the seasons Koblenz-Süd ( Diez ) and Koblenz-West ( Woppenroth ) for the two places to be awarded in the 1st amateur league. The team and Diez were able to successfully exit this round.

Thus, the club then rose for the 1958/59 season from the 2nd amateur league to the amateur league Rhineland . There the team landed with 20:28 points in ninth place within the East relay . With 23:29 points, this placement could then be occupied again in the following season . After the 1960/61 season, the team was even able to improve to sixth place with 23:25 points. In the next season , however, some positions on the table went down again and with 11th place and 19:29 points, relegation could just be prevented. The relegation should then come in the following season . Because the league became single-track again, seventh place was just barely enough for the club to keep the league. As a result, the team then rose again to the 2nd amateur league .

From then on, the team kept switching between the East and West relay. Due to the departure of some strong players, the team became weaker and had to accept relegation to the A-class after the 1968/69 season . A season later, there was another descent into the district class . Due to the flood of the Rhine in 1970 , no more games could be played on their own pitch until March 1971.

New start in the lowest leagues

After only the youth team had participated in the game for a while. In the 2007/08 season he joined a men's team in the district league D for the first time and was able to rise immediately via second place in the table. After the following season, at the end, with only one point gap to the saving 12th place, but also the relegation from the district league C was on again. This season 2009/10 the club then finished with 16. points at the end of the very last place in the table. Since this was the lowest league, the club was not relegated. At the end of the 2010/11 season, ninth and penultimate place was possible with at least 13 points. For the next season, the team was then placed in the higher district class C. There the 10th place could be achieved with 19 points at the end of the season, which should be enough for relegation. Nevertheless, the club was then transferred back to the district league D for the next season , from which the team was able to rise again as champions with 52 points at the end of the season.

The 2013/14 season in the district league C could then easily be held in eighth place. At the end of the 2015/16 season, the team was again on the verge of relegation. However, the 12th place authorized to participate in a relegation round to the further participation in the county league C . Bad Hönningen was the first to go out of this round and thus hold the league. With 63 points, the team then finished the 2016/17 season in second place. Which in turn entitled to participate in a relegation round. From the four-team round for promotion to the district league B, the club then came out second with 4 points, which should be enough for the promotion. The first season in the district league B ended with 15 points in 13th place in the table. So the team had to take part in a relegation round again. The best three teams from the round of four participants were able to move up or keep their class. Bad Hönningen achieved this condition with 4 points above third place in the table. With only seven points and 14th place on the table, the team then had to relegate to the district league C at the end of the 2018/19 season . Thus, the club has been playing in this league since the 2019/20 season.
