history

The SSW shipyard built six ships of this type for the Hamburg shipping company ER Schiffahrt in 2002/2003. Three hulls were manufactured as a subcontract by the Daewoo shipyard in Mangalia, Romania on the Black Sea and transported to Bremerhaven.

The construction price for the six ships of this type was around 180 million US dollars. The Hamburg-based Nordcapital Group , whose main shareholder is Erck Rickmers , who was born in Bremerhaven , took over the financing of the ship sextet. During the construction of the six ships, the shipyard incurred losses of around 35 million US dollars due to an insufficient calculation, which contributed significantly to the shipyard's second bankruptcy. Nevertheless, the ship type is considered a successful construction. Another four ships of the type were built at Kiel's Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft according to the plans of the SSW shipyard in Bremerhaven. This worked as a subcontractor for the ships built in Kiel and delivered deckhouses, fore and aft as well as other sections to the HDW.
