STP Airways is the national airline of São Tomé and Príncipe , based in São Tomé and based at São Tomé Airport .
history
STP Airways was founded on October 1, 2006 as a state-owned company and successor to Air São Tomé and Príncipe , which had lost its only aircraft in an accident on May 23, 2006. A month later, the government tried to partially privatize the company, but initially did not find any investors. The state-owned company initially neither had an Air Operator Certificate nor did it have its own machines, so flight operations were outsourced to external companies. For a connection to Lisbon , STP Airways leased fixed seating capacity on board TAAG Angola Airlines aircraft .
On 23 June 2008 the Portuguese acquired Euro Atlantic Airways a 37% stake in the company, the remaining shares will be 35% of the Republic of Sao Tome & Principe, and to 14% each by the Banco do Ecuador and the Gulf International Air Service held . EuroAtlantic Airways then leased Boeing 767-300ER aircraft to the company, which were used on flights to Lisbon. From October 2012 the connection was flown with a Boeing 737-800 of the Portuguese company.
Like all airlines in the country, STP Airways is on the list of operating bans for the airspace of the European Union .
