EuroAtlantic Airways (previously Air Madeira ) is a Portuguese airline based in Sintra and based at Lisbon-Portela Airport . It specializes in the aircraft leasing business .
history
The company was founded in 1993 by Tomaz Metello under the name Air Zarco and began flight operations in May 1997 under the trade name Air Madeira. Initially, transatlantic charter flights were carried out with a Lockheed L-1011 TriStar . Since 1999 the company has been allowed to offer scheduled flights . A year later it was given its current name, EuroAtlantic Airways. EuroAtlantic offers aircraft leasing for other airlines and charter flights for tour operators and is a provider of airport services.
EuroAtlantic Airways was the last European airline to use a Lockheed L-1011 in regular passenger service. This machine was shut down in spring 2010.
EuroAtlantic Airways has a maintenance agreement with TAP Portugal and holds 38% of the shares in STP Airways , the national carrier of São Tomé and Príncipe .
Destinations
EuroAtlantic Airways operates international charter flights with a focus on the USA , Canada , Mexico , Australia and Pakistan and also offers its aircraft in wet lease to other airlines, including TUIfly and TAP Portugal .
The government of Guinea-Bissau signed a contract with EuroAtlantic Airways in November 2014 for flights between Bissau and Lisbon . This means that the West African country has a direct European flight again.

More planes
The first aircraft, the TriStar with the aircraft registration CS-TEB , was in service with EuroAtlantic for ten years from 2000. Also from summer 2000 and until 2006 three Boeing 737-300s flew for the company. The Boeing 767 freighter with the registration number CS-TLZ was decommissioned in February 2017 after it had been operated by EuroAtlantic (temporarily for TMA and Star Air ) since February 2010 .
