Aerocondor (officially ATA Aerocondor Transportes Aéreos Lda. ) Was a Portuguese airline based in Cascais . She mainly flew on routes within Portugal. After a change of ownership in 2007, flight operations ceased in May 2008.
history
Aerocondor was founded in 1975 as an air taxi company and was part of the Aerocondor group of companies. In addition to national scheduled flights, the company also offered sightseeing flights and ad hoc charter services . In addition, Aerocondor was involved in fighting forest fires from 1989 to 2007 in cooperation with the Portuguese fire brigade (SNB) and the Association of the Paper Industry (CELPA). This applied both to the extinguishing of acute forest fires, using Canadair CL 215 and Consolidated PBY-6A , as well as to observation flights to combat and avoid wildfires at an early stage. The company also had a flight school.
Until 2007, the airline was 85.15% owned by the Portuguese holding company Aerocondor SGPS , the other 14.85% were held by the Spanish Gestair . In March 2007, Aerocondor SGPS sold all of its shares to the Canadian-Portuguese Longstock Financial Group . This group of companies had already acquired the airline Air Luxor a year earlier , but the Air Operator Certificate was withdrawn shortly after the takeover . The Longstock Financial Group planned to use the Aerocondor operator's certificate again to operate international charter flights and to offer ACMI rentals . For this purpose, the procurement of one Boeing 757-200 and two Boeing 767-300ERs was planned for spring 2008. In May 2008, Aerocondor ceased flight operations without the envisaged business model being implemented.
Destinations
Aerocondor was the only airline to serve the northern Portuguese towns of Bragança and Vila Real in national scheduled flights . From here, flights to Paris Orly and Agen in the south of France were also offered until May 2007 . This route could be explained by a large proportion of Portuguese guest workers in France, who mainly come from northern Portugal. In addition, Aerocondor operated a line connection between Madeira and Porto Santo until the end of 2006 .
fleet
In May 2008 the Aerocondor fleet consisted of two ATR-42s . Previously, Dornier 228 and Shorts 360 were also used.
