Cabo Verde Airlines , TACV Cabo Verde Airlines until May 2018 , is a Cape Verdean airline based in Praia and based at Amílcar Cabral International Airport on Sal .

history

In 1958 the Portuguese state founded the Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde ( TACV for short ). The company began flight operations from Praia to Sal and São Vicente in 1959 . In 1963 a connection to Lisbon was established in cooperation with TAP Portugal .

After Cape Verde gained independence, the state converted the airline into a public limited company that remained 100 percent state-owned. In 2001 it was decided to privatize the airline . However, this step was only taken in 2006.

The airline discontinued all national connections on August 1, 2017 or handed them over to Binter CV . Together with an international partner, under the name TACV Internacional , only international flights are to be offered in the future.

Ownership

Between August 14, 2017 and August 13, 2018, the airline will be strategically managed by Loftleiðir Icelandic from Iceland , which will receive 925,000 euros for this . In September 2018 it was announced that Icelandair would acquire 51 percent of the shares in Cabo Verde Airlines. 39 percent belong to other investors, 10% to employees. The transfer was completed in March 2019.

Destinations

TACV connected seven of the nine inhabited islands of Cape Verde to one another until the end of July 2017. Sal serves international destinations such as Lisbon, Paris , Rome , Milan , Boston , Washington, DC , Fortaleza , Recife , Salvador , Porto Alegre , Dakar , Lagos and Luanda . (Status: December 2019) For a long time , the only German-speaking destination was Munich , which was initially to be replaced by Frankfurt am Main in summer 2012 , but was finally discontinued in winter 2012.
