White Airways (originally Yes - Linhas Aéreas Charter ) is a Portuguese airline based in Lisbon and based at Lisbon-Portela Airport . The company specializes in ACMI rentals and primarily uses its fleet for other airlines.
history
Yes - Linhas Aéreas Charter ( ICAO code : YSS, callsign: YOUNG SKY) was founded on January 19, 2000 in the form of a joint venture between TAP Air Portugal and the Portuguese tour operator Viagens Abreu as a charter airline . Originally, TAP had a 51% stake in the company, while Viagens Abreu held 49% of the company. The start of flight operations took place in June 2000 with one of Air Luxor in wetlease hired Lockheed L-1011-500 Tristar and adopted by TAP Airbus A320-200 , that of GECAS was leased. While the Tristar was primarily used on long-haul flights from Lisbon to Brazil , Mexico and the Dominican Republic , the leased Airbus was used on charter flights within Europe for the duration of the summer season. In April 2001, the company put a second Lockheed Tristar into service to replace the Airbus A320. In addition, a Boeing 767-300ER was wet leased from Icelandair from April to November 2003 . Due to the high losses in the charter business, TAP decided in 2003 to realign the company and took over 75% of the company shares.
Yes - Linhas Aéreas Charter was renamed White at the beginning of 2004 (at that time still without the addition Airways ) and the focus was placed on the implementation of ACMI missions on behalf of other airlines. For this purpose, the company initially used a Lockheed Tristar that came from its predecessor. An Airbus A310-300 was taken over as the second aircraft in June 2005 .
At the end of 2006, TAP sold its shares to the conglomerate Omni Aviação . Today White Airways is 100% owned.
