history

Cover of DFB-Aktuell issue 2/87 for the 44th DFB-Pokal final on June 20, 1987

As early as the 1980s, the women of the STV played in the Regionalliga West , the top division at the time. With Marie-Luise Gehlen , the club provided a German national player between 1984 and 1985 . The club achieved its greatest success in 1987 when the team reached the final of the DFB Cup 1986/87 (women) . There they lost 2: 5 to TSV Siegen on June 20, 1987 .

In 1990 qualification for the Bundesliga was narrowly missed. Just one year later they became runner-up behind Grün-Weiß Brauweiler and took part in the promotion round to the Bundesliga. On the last day of play, they beat Tennis Borussia Berlin 2-0. So they were level with the Berliners on points and goal difference, who scored one more goal and therefore made it into the upper house. A year later, the STV was champion of the Regionalliga West. On the last day of the promotion round, the Lövenich women made their promotion to the Bundesliga perfect with a 5-3 win over FC Rumeln-Kaldenhausen .

The guest appearance in the Bundesliga was short-lived. After just one year, the team had to return to the regional league. Only two wins against bottom of the table TV Jahn Delmenhorst and three draws were recorded for themselves. After several years in the league midfield, they were relegated to the association league in 1997, from which they only returned in 2001. In 2004 the team rose again from the regional league. For the association league season 2004/05, the team was withdrawn before the first match day. It was not until the beginning of the 2010/11 season that a women's team was reported to play again, but was withdrawn before the first match day.

Men's soccer

The first men's team played mostly in the top division of the Erkelenz district. Only in the 1953/54 season and between 1976 and 1984 did the club play extra-circular. In 2001 the club moved to the district of Heinsberg and after a year rose to the district league B, where they played until the 2010/11 season. After two narrowly missed championships, in 2011 she made it back to the district league A in the third attempt. There are six teams in the youth division and two teams in the senior division. In 2016 the STV merged with Viktoria Katzem to form the SG Katzem / Lövenich syndicate . The syndicate was dissolved in 2019, so the first team of the STV started again in the district league C.
