The SV Gaflenz is an Austrian football club from the state of Upper Austria in the district of Steyr-Land . The club belongs to the Lower Austrian Football Association . The club colors are orange / black. In the 2009/10 season, the club played in the Regionalliga Ost , the third highest Austrian level of performance, but has since been relegated to the Lower Austrian regional league .

history

SV Gaflenz was founded in 1969 and initially took part in the championship of the Linz Diocesan Sports Association. Founding members included Walter Bruckmayr, Reinhold Forster and Günther Kellnreitner, who has also been chairman of the association since 1995. The first chairman was Walter Bruckmayer, who was replaced from 1986 by Raimund Harreither, who held this position until 1995. Günther Kellnreitner is not only chairman of the association, but also mayor of the market town of Gaflenz .

Between 1976 and 1984 SV Gaflenz had one of the most successful women's soccer teams in Austria, which toured Tunisia , the USA , Canada and Spain . The biggest success was a 1-0 win against FC Barcelona . In total, the team played 411 games and achieved 340 wins and 29 draws with 42 defeats.

From 1981 the club wanted to take part in the championship games of the Upper Austrian Football Association . Since he could not provide three teams (combat team, reserve and juniors), he was not admitted. The club therefore submitted a further request to the Lower Austrian Football Association , which the club accommodated and divided it into the 2nd class Ybbstal in the last performance level.

After several promotions over the years, he was promoted to the 1st Lower Austrian Regional League (fourth level) in the 2007/08 season . The 2008/09 season was extremely successful for SV Gaflenz. The team not only won the Lower Austrian Football Cup, but also won the Lower Austrian state championship title. This enabled the club to march through the highest Lower Austrian football league. A so far unique curiosity is that an Upper Austrian club managed to become regional champion in Lower Austria. In the cup final, which was played in two games, SV Gaflenz played against 1. Wiener Neudorfer SVg and won both matches with 3-2 goals.

By winning the championship title, SV Gaflenz rose to the Regionalliga Ost and thus took part in the third highest performance class from the 2009/10 season, but meanwhile the club has been relegated back to the Lower Austrian Regional League .

With a population of 1931 in the community, the association has around 300 members.

Youth work

Since 1998, SV Gaflenz has placed great emphasis on working with young talent. The club not only undertakes numerous trips abroad with the youngsters - one of them took the U-16 team to the Copa de amistad in Lima ( Peru ) in 2003 - but it also organizes international youth weeks itself. As a result, more than 1,200 foreign soccer teams from all continents have come to Gaflenz since 1980 to take part in a wide variety of tournaments.

The Inneres Ennstal project has existed since 2009 , in which the clubs SV Gaflenz, SV Weyer and ASV Kleinreifling have merged to form a play community for youngsters.

In 2008 SV Gaflenz was awarded second place by Governor Josef Pühringer for its activities in the state competition “Best Association Work in Upper Austria” among 1,700 participating clubs .

A youth player at SV Gaflenz who made the leap into professional football is Martin Teurezbacher .

Sports facility

The first sports facility was built in 1978. In 1990 this was replaced by the new, community-owned sports center, which holds 2000 spectators. It was equipped with a covered grandstand in 2008–2009 . On June 27, 2009, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of SV Gaflenz, it was officially opened with a game against the Austrian cup winner at the time, FK Austria Wien . The Viennese won with 5-1 goals, with Roman Gibala scoring the honorary goal of the Gaflenzers.
